-go through the Letter 'F' section of starfall
-Make a Fall leaf Letter 'F' (go on a walk and collect some fall leaves.  glue them to a piece of paper in the shape of a letter 'F.'  This is also a good time to talk about Fall.  Talk about what the weather is like in Fall, the holidays in Fall, what type of clothes you wear in Fall etc)

-pick one (or several) of these Firetruck songs to sing
make this fun Firetruck craft
-read this fun online book Let's Fight a Fire

Wednesday:  Fire Safety Day
-see if you can take your kiddo to a local fire station to meet some firefighters and to check out the Firetrucks first hand.
-many kids are frightened of firefighters, so make sure your little one knows that firefighters are our friends!!!
-talk about fires (how do they start? candles, matches, playing with electrical outlets etc)
-talk about why fires are bad (they can burn you, the smoke is bad for you etc)
-stop drop and roll (teach your kiddo that if they ever catch on fire, they should stop, drop, and roll.  Be sure to keep this lighthearted and fun, because you certainly do not want to scare your kiddo.  Play a game in the living room floor.  Sing a song, and when the song is over, everyone can Stop moving, Drop the the floor, and Roll around.)
-check the batteries in your smoke detectors (have your kiddo help you check all the batteries in your smoke detectors.  Warn them that when you test the smoke detectors, they are VERY loud--they should cover their ears.  Make sure that your kiddo knows that the smoke detector is there to protect them, and is nothing to be afraid of)
-what is your family's emergency plan?  Talk to your kiddo about what they should do if they ever hear a smoke detector go off.  Should they stay put until you can get to them, or should they meet you at a designated spot.  Get together as a family and practice what you will do if you ever hear a smoke detector going off.
-talk about dialing 911  (make sure that your kiddo knows that they are ONLY allowed to do this in an emergency)

Thursday:  The Number 6
-color a Number 6 coloring page
-while coloring, watch this, this, and this
-have your kiddo trace the Number 6 on their coloring page with their finger

-read this fun online book, Six Little Teddy Bears
-do this fun Number 6 worksheet

Friday:  The Color Red

-go Red fishing (cut out fish in two or three different colors of construction paper.  Make sure you have 6 Red fish.  Put a paperclip on each fish and place them all in a bowl or bucket.  Make a fishing pole out of a stick, a piece of string, and a magnet.  Have your kiddo fish until he catches 6 red fish.  Give them a special red reward--a red piece of candy or a red balloon.)
-do this Red worksheet
-play this fun differences game

***I just want to take a moment to talk about the Memory card sets that you make each week.  I don't always mention them in the lesson plan, but make sure that you keep them together and play them once a week or so.  They are a great review game, and memory building tool.  As the set gets bigger, I break our cards into groups: letters, numbers, and shapes.  Only play with one group at a time to make it easier on your little one!  Have fun!  :0)

Thanks for learning the Letter F and getting brushed up on your fire safety with us!  If you have missed a previous lesson plan, you can find it here.  Check back next Sunday for the 'G' is for Giraffe lesson plan!
